The Siaya Governor issued the statement after President William Ruto presided over the swearing-in of the judges at State House.

Siaya Governor James Orengo has said that there was no reason for the frustration of the appointment of six judges who were rejected by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In a statement on Wednesday, September 14, after the six judges took their oaths of office, the county boss said that they were the best judicial brains in the country.

The six judges, Weldon Korir, Aggrey Muchelule, George Odunga, Prof. Joel Ngugi, Evans Makori and Judith Omange had been fronted by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) before being turned down by Uhuru.

Orengo, a Senior Counsel, went ahead to state that the independence of the Judiciary was paramount.

“There was no justification at all to frustrate the appointment of the judges of the Court of Appeal, some of the best judicial brains. Kudos to Muchelule, Korir, Ngugi, Makori & Omange. And Maraga was there to witness it all. An independent judiciary is paramount,” Orengo stated.

President William Ruto presided over the swearing-in of the six judges after he signed an Executive Order at State House on Tuesday evening appointing the six judges.

The Head of State assured the Judiciary that his government will respect the independence of the institution.

“I want to assure the judiciary that my administration will respect the independence of the judiciary and all other institutions in a manner that makes them efficient to deliver on their respective mandate,” President Ruto said.
