Ruto's office is yet to give a clarification on the matter whether decision stands or not after deleting the tweet.

Confusion rocked Kenyans after President William Ruto made a crucial announcement on Twitter only to have the message deleted later on.

In the deleted message, Ruto announced Kenya's decision to rescind recognition of the Sahrawi Democratic Republic as an independent state.

The tweet further stated that Ruto's government was working on removing the entity's presence in Nairobi.

"Kenya rescinds its recognition of the SADR and initiates steps to wind down the entity’s presence in the country," Ruto said.

"Kenya is accelerating relations with Morocco in areas of trade, agriculture, health, tourism and energy among others."

He cancelled the recognition after a meeting with an envoy from Morocco who had brought a congratulatory message from His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco.

Ruto's office is yet to give a clarification on the matter whether decision stands or not after deleting the tweet.

Nairobi Leo has learnt that such a decision would only be arrived at after Cabinet Approval.

Ruto is yet to appoint his Cabinet in office and therefore such communication hints at an illegality.

The tweet had received mixed reactions from Kenyans with some of them disagreeing with the decision.

Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi said the people of SADR had the right to be recognised.

"On this, I respectfully disagree with President William Ruto. The Sahrawi People of Western Sahara have the right of Peoples to self-determination. Morocco is a colonizing state," he said.
