Chebukati disclosed that it is Tuju who invited them for the meeting.

IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati has disclosed why he together with commissioners Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye visited former Jubilee secretary General Raphael Tuju.

Addressing a post election workshop in Mombasa on Thursday, Chebukati said the visit was purely because the former SG had been involved in accident.

He said they had gone there to visit him in bid to wish him a quick recovery and good health.

He faulted Tuju for turning their visit into a political matter that he used to spoil the name of the electoral commission.

"We were subjected to character assassination by Raphael Tuju who falsely tried to infer ill motive to a visit by the three of us when he was involved in a gruesome road accident that nearly claimed his life," he said.

He added it is Tuju who invited him.

"He attempted to take advantage of a benevolent gesture of visiting him in 2021, on his own invitation, while recuperating from his injuries to achieve the malicious end of maligning our image before the public."

In August, Chebukati in his affidavit filed in response to a presidential petition disclosed that Tuju and a group of other men visited him and advised the commission to change the results of the August 9, elections in favour of Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

The same remarks were captured in Guliye, Boya Molu affidavits.

Tuju however refuted the claims and said the two commissioners visited him at his Karen home with an intent to discuss the 2022 elections.

He also disclosed that Chebukati also visited him at a private location where they held talks.
