County police commander Samson Ole Kiine confirmed the tragedy.

He said they are interrogating the tanker driver to establish the actual cause of the accident.

The matatu that was involved in the accident is said to have had 10 people including the driver and conductor.

“Police officers are still at the scene of the accident to prevent residents from siphoning fuel. We’re investigating the cause of the accident,” Kiine said.

Two people are said to have sustained injuries as a result of the accident and they were rushed to Homa Bay County referral Hospital.

The accident caused a scene as locals wanted to siphon fuel from the tanker forcing the police to act swiftly in preventing that from happening.

The Matatus is said to have been driven at a high speed so much so that he could not manage to control the vehicle upon seeing the oncoming fuel tanker.
