Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced the reopening of iconic Uhuru Park after months of renovation.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has intimated that the refurbished iconic Uhuru Park will be reopened to the public in December.

Speaking on Tuesday, September 27, the county boss maintained that the park will be reopened together with Central Park and access to the parks will be free.

The two parks have been undergoing renovations since last year and have been inaccessible to the public since then.

Sakaja on Friday, September 23, lauded the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) for its role in the renovation of Uhuru Park.

The county boss, who toured the facilities, said that he plans to have recreational facilities throughout the city, maintaining that Nairobi residents deserve it.

“Well done Maj. Badi and NMS team on Uhuru Park. Nairobians will really enjoy this. We plan to have parks and such recreational areas throughout the city as all Nairobians deserve this. Asante sana,” Sakaja said.

NMS on Tuesday, August 30, shared photos of the refurbished Uhuru Park which showed a new-look park.

By look of the photos and video shared by NMS, the park had a renovated entrance with new pavements inside the facility and well-maintained lawns.

New benches for the public had also been put in the park, with a number of monuments also erected.

NMS stated that the revamped park will also host a play round, an outdoor gym, jogging tracks, botanical trails, outdoor library and a skating park.

“Nairobi's most popular recreational parks, Uhuru & Central Parks have undergone a major facelift to ensure they meet international standards. The green spaces have been exceptionally phenomenal in the evolution of our nation as they have both hosted historic national events,” NMS said.
