Chief Justice Martha Koome and her deputy Philomena Mwilu on Thursday attended the inaugural address of President William Ruto at Parliament.

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has called out the Supreme Court of Kenya judges for lining up with politicians to receive the president at Parliament buildings on Thursday.

Chief Justice Martha Koome and her deputy Philomena Mwilu had lined up together with speakers of the Senate and National Assembly to welcome President William Ruto at parliament buildings.

The move, Ahmednasir says, is wrong since the two are judicial officers.

"Totally out of order for the CJ and DCJ to line up with politicians and receive the President outside Parliament...CJ and DCJ must realise they are judges of the Supreme Court and are thus judicial officers," the lawyer tweeted.

He added that Parliament has a special "waiting room" for judges where they can take a sit and wait for the proceedings to begin.

Ruto on Thursday made his maiden address at Parliament buildings during which he highlighted his agenda to the people of Kenya.

He unpacked his plan to transform the country even as he asks MPs to help in formulating requisite legislation to effect his plans.

Judiciary is an independent institution and as such, one it is required to be seen as such to avoid criticism that may suggest that they are under the control of an organ.

The Ruto's address on Thursday saw even former CJ David Maraga attend the function. Chief security officers and senior government officials were also present.
