National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula on Thursday ruled that Kenya Kwanza Alliance is the majority coalition in Parliament.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula on Thursday, October 6, ruled that Kenya Kwanza Alliance is the majority coalition in Parliament.

Wetang'ula noted that Kenya Kwanza was the 'majority' coalition in the National Assembly with 179 MPs against Azimio's 165 MPs.

"It is without a doubt that if it were to be considered as a political party, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has no elected member in this house today as no member was elected under its banner," Wetangula said while delivering his ruling.

Following the ruling by Wetangula, Parliament's leadership will be as follows:

Majority Leader – Kimani Ichung'wah

Deputy Majority Leader  – Owen Baya

Majority Whip – Silvanus Osoro

Deputy Majority Whip – Naomi Jillo Waqo

Minority Leader – Opiyo Wandayi

Deputy Minority Leader – Robert Mbui

Minority Whip – Junet Mohamed

Deputy Minority Whip – Sabina Chege

Wetang'ula's ruling came after ruling that the 14 want-away members of the United Democratic Movement, Pamoja African Alliance, Movement for Democracy and Growth, and Maendeleo Chap Chap, are part of the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

“In my considered opinion, it would be imprudent to treat members of UDM, PAA, MCC, and MDG as part of a coalition that they have distanced themselves from and their parties. I am persuaded that the 14 members and their parties are part of Kenya Kwanza coalition,” the Speaker stated.
