Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has offered his first salary after being re-elected into office to locals in his constituency.

The vocal lawmaker on Friday, October 7, stated that he had not done anything for them during the first month in office.

He therefore said that he did not deserve the salary, asking his constituents to go for it once they spot him in Kimilili and divide it among themselves.

"My people of Kimilili, mulinipigia kura nashukuru. Tangu munichague hakuna kitu nimewafanyia. Sisitahili mushahara wowote, sasa ile millioni moja nimelipwa ya mwezi hii nitawaletea. Mukiniona tu nimeingia kimilili mukuje muchukue na mugawane," Barasa stated.

His remarks come after the National Assembly held a special sitting on Thursday, October 6, to debate President William Ruto's maiden speech in the 13th Parliament.

During the sitting, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula made a ruling on the House Leadership as he declared Kenya Kwanza the majority side in Parliament.

Wetangula said that when factoring in the post-election formations, Kenya Kwanza was the majority coalition in the National Assembly with 179 MPs against Azimio’s 157.

Following the ruling, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah was named the Majority Leader while Kilifi North MP Owen Baya was named his deputy.

South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro was named the Majority Whip and will be deputized by Naomi Jillo Waqo.

The Speaker also named Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi as the Minority Leader while Kathiani MP Robert Mbui was named the deputy.

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed was declared the Minority Whip as Jubilee nominated MP Sabina Chege was named his deputy.
