Bobi Wine had flown to Dubai for a charity event before he encountered the law enforcers.

Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has been set free and now awaits to partake in a charity event in Dubai.

Via Twitter, the one-time musician informed his fans he had secured his freedom after hours of grilling by the authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) city.

He said the event for which he flew to the city will go on as planned with the aim of helping Ugandan immigrant workers.

The politician was on Friday, October 7, apprehended and detained in Dubai a few hours after his arrival.

He said he was grilled for eight hours after being arrested;  his phone and passport were seized upon his landing.

Among the details the law enforcers drew from him included those of his family members and the leadership of the National Unity Platform (NUP), a political outfit he leads.

The politician gained international recognition after trying to unseat President Yoweri Museveni who has been at the helm of power in Kampala for over three decades.

Bobi has numerous times found himself in the bad books of the government; to tame him, the government would sanction house arrests.
