Out of 9154 candidates who applied for the position of Principal Secretary post, only 585 candidates were shortlisted. 


A number of close allies and supporters of President William Ruto applied for Principal Secretary positions but failed to make it to the list of shortlisted candidates, it has now emerged. 

Out of 9154 candidates who applied for the position of Principal Secretary post, only 585 candidates were shortlisted.

Top on the list is ex-KNUT secretary general Wilson Sossion who made a stab at the Bomet Senatorial race but lost in the UDA primaries to Hillary Sigei who was eventually elected into office.

Vocal former Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru is also said to have applied for the post but still failed to make it to the list of shortlisted candidates.

Another ally of President William Ruto who failed to make it in the shortlist is Farmers Party leader Irungu Nyakera. 

Nyakera vied for Murang’a Governor seat but lost to Irungu Kang’ata of UDA. 

His party was one of the outfits that signed a coalition agreement in the Kenya Kwanza Coalition.

EALA MP Simon Mbugua and former Mining Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) John Mosonik were also rejected. 

Mbugua vied for Starehe Parliamentary sat on a UDA ticket but lost to Jubilee candidate Amos Mwago. 

He had defeated former MP Charles Njagua, alias Jaguar during the nominations. 

Mosonik on the other hand tried his lack in the Bomet gubernatorial elections but lost to the incumbent Hillary Barchok during the primaries.

Other rejected even though they were not close allies of the DP are government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna and Roots Party Deputy presidential candidate Justina Wamae. 

Others are former MPs Omingo Magara (South Mugirango) Martin Ogindo (Rangwe) and Agostinho Neto (Ndhiwa MP) also failed to meet the qualifications PSC set for the positions.
