Amin Mohamed becomes the 12th director of the DCI after George Kinoti who served between 2018 and 2022.

Amin Mohamed is the new director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following George Kinoti's exit.

As borne in a Gazette Notice published by President  William Ruto on Friday, October 14, Amin is set to be the new substantive director of the agency, taking over from Hamisi Massa who was the boss on an interim basis.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 30 of the National Police Service Act 2011, I, William Samoei Ruto appoint Amin Mohamed Ibrahim to be the director, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)," the Gazette Notice reads.

As the agency reports, prior to his appointment, Amin was the Director of the Internal Affairs Unit, mandated to investigate complaints against police.

Still in the DCI, Amin previously served in various senior positions including the head of the DCI Investigations Bureau, head of Operations,  O/C Banking Fraud unit among other specialised units in the Directorate.

His vast experience in the field of investigations, many argue, has informed his appointment by the president.

Amin becomes the 12th officer to ascend to the helm of the DCI since its establishment.

He succeeds Kinoti who commandeered the agency between 2018 and 2022.

Meanwhile, Kinoti has been redeployed to the Public Service Commission (PSC) ahead of the lapse of his term.

In a statement via Twitter on Thursday, October 6, the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) said that the approval was sanctioned in September 2022.

"The National Police Service Commission has approved the transfer of services for George Kinoti, CBS, former Director, Directorate of Criminal Investigation, from the National Police Service Commission to Public Service Commission with remuneration and privileges personal to himself, with effect from 27th September 2022 until attainment of mandatory retirement age," NPSC said.
