The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) identified the politician as the prime suspect in the murder of her husband.

Former Kiambu Woman Rep aspirant Gladys Chania, who was arrested in connection with the murder of her husband George Mwangi, has been freed on bail. 

On Monday, October 24, Chania and her co-accused, Maurice Mbugua, were freed by the Kiambu Law Courts on a Sh1 million cash bail each.

Her release comes after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, October 14, identified the Kiambu politician as the key suspect in the murder of Mwangi.

The DCI said that Mwangi, an engineer based in Kigali, Rwanda, was killed following a love affair involving him and another woman.

"As detectives investigating the murder most foul have gathered, George Mwangi of Double M International based in Kigali, Rwanda, was killed following a love affair involving him and his mistress identified as Lucy Muthoni, a secretary at a local school.

"The deceased’s wife Gladys Chania, a Kiambu-based politician who unsuccessfully vied for the Kiambu Woman Rep position in the last elections has been identified as the main suspect behind the murder," the DCI stated.

DCI detectives combed Mwangi's mansion in Kiambu where they recovered some of the murder weapons used to kill the Rwanda-based engineerthat were hidden in the master bedroom. 

Mwangi's lifeless body was discovered wrapped in a polythene bag on Wednesday, October 12, in Kieni Forest.
