TSC in a notice said that the sacked teachers will not be allowed to teach in any Kenyan schools following their deregistration.

The teacher's service commission has sacked 44 teachers and deregistered them from its database of those licensed to teach in Kenyan schools.

The 44 teachers were laid off over disciplinary-related issues.

TSC in a notice said that the sacked teachers will not be allowed to teach in any Kenyan schools following their deregistration.

"Pursuant to section 30 of the TSC Act (2012), the commission wishes to publish names of teachers who have been removed from the Register of Teachers," the notice read in part.

"Further, under the law, these teachers cannot engage in teaching in any learning institution."

Section 30 of the TSC Act (2012) gives the TSC the mandate to deregister a teacher in the event he is dead, has a mental illness, is found guilty of a sexual or criminal offence or if established that the process of his registration was fraudulently done.

"Subject to the provisions of this Act, the removal of a teacher’s name from the register shall be notified by the commission to the person by registered mail addressed to his or her last known address," the TSC act states.

It is an offence for an institution to employ a deregistered teacher.

This group of teachers can however gain their registration back if they appeal the decision or move to court to get a favourable intervention.

Otherwise, one might be forced to change their profession to be able to eke a living professionally.
