A petition has been filed to impeach Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

A resident of Meru has filed a petition with the Meru County Assembly to impeach the county Governor, Kawira Mwangaza.

In the petition filed on Thursday, October 27, the resident, Salesio Thuranira, sought to compel Meru MCAs to oust Mwangaza over what he termed as gross misconduct and abuse of office.

He accused the governor of not involving MCAs in major decisions in the county after taking over from former governor Kiraitu Murungi.

This comes days after Meru MCAs refused to be addressed by Mwangaza as they walked out during her official address in the assembly.

According to a section of the MCAs, Governor Mwangaza was not involving them in the running of the county's affairs.

They alleged that the governor had no time to talk to them when they sought her, as she did not even pick their calls.

"We have sought audience with the governor for the last two weeks seeking to have a sitting with her so that we can discuss on the way forward on how we are going to work for the people of Meru which have been to no avail," one of the MCAs told the press.

Addressing the press on Monday, October 24, Mwangaza said that the MCAs were demanding too much from her government.

She said she will not follow in her predecessors' footsteps in releasing funds to the MCAs but will follow the law.

"Hakuna pesa nitapeana kienyeji kienyeji. Lazima kuwe na sheria na sheria ifuatiliwe," Mwangaza said.
