The changes come in the wake of a probe into cases of abduction and extrajudicial killings that have been blamed on the DCI.

The Director of criminal investigations Amin Mohamed has initiated major changes at the DCI headquarters.

In the changes that Nairobi Leo has established, Said Kiprotich has been appointed to be in charge of DCI Operations. 

Margaret Karanja who was serving as the Director of Forensics has been appointed to lead the Anti-Narcotics Unit.

Abdallah Komesha who was serving as the National Centre for Counter-terrorism boss has been transferred to the DCI Headquarters as Head of Personnel.

Nyanza region DCI boss John Onyango has been promoted to the headquarters and will now be the Head of the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau.

Marsabit County Criminal Investigations Officer Bethuel Oburu has been charged with leading the Central Kenya DCI unit.

DCI boss in Kisumu County Francis Wanjau has been moved to Rift Valley where he will serve as the lead in the Rift Valley Regional DCI headquarters. 

The changes take effect immediately, Amin said.

The changes come in the wake of a probe into cases of abduction and extrajudicial killings that have been blamed on the DCI.

So far, nine officers belonging to the disbanded special service unit of the DCI have been arrested in relation to the extrajudicial killings.

Peter Muthee Gachiku, Francis Ndonye, John Mwangi, Joseph Kamau, Joseph Mwenda, David Chepcheng, Stephen Luseno, Paul Njogu and Simon Muhunga are among the arrested officers.
