The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has announced the death of Africa's largest elephant.

In a statement on Tuesday, November 1, KWS said that the elephant, which was named Dida, died from natural causes due to old age.

KWS posted photos of the elephant that resided at Tsavo East National Park, describing her as a matriarch, having lived for about 60 to 65 years.

"We are saddened by the death of Dida who was possibly Africa’s largest female Tusker and a Matriarch residing in Tsavo East National Park. She died from natural causes due to old age having lived a full life to about 60-65 years old," KWS stated.

However, the post did not go down well with a section of netizens who were quick to raise questions about the death of the elephant.

According to a section of netizens, the announcement by KWS had more questions than answers due to the nature of some photos.

In one of the photos shared by KWS, there was a carcass, possibly of an animal that must have died long ago.

The netizens wondered whether the elephant died of natural causes or it was killed and left to rot as the carcass was dry.
