The confirmation comes after weeks of speculation that Odinga had picked the daughter for nomination.

The ODM party has finally confirmed that Winnie Odinga has been nominated to the East Africa Legislative Assembly.

In a statement on Wednesday, the ODM party selection committee presided over by Deputy Party Leader Wycliffe Oparanya settled on five nominees.

Among the names listed for nomination include that of ODM leader Raila Odinga's daughter Winnie.

Others proposed for nomination are Mombasa businessman Suleiman Shahbal, Mohamed Diriye (Wajir), Timothy Bosire (Nyamira), Beatrice Askul (Turkana) and Justus Kizito who is the immediate former Shinyalu constituency MP.

The confirmation comes after weeks of speculation that Odinga had picked the daughter for nomination.

The scion had gone public denying applying for the post even though she did not come clean to say if she was not interested.

Kenya has nine seats in the East African Legislative Assembly. Five of the nine will go to the Kenya Kwanza coalition while four will go to the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

This now means that the six nominated by ODM will still face competition from affiliate party members in the race to find the final four who will make it to the assembly.
