A Mombasa court has jailed a man for 2 years for stealing an SGR metallic pole worth Sh30k.

In an update by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) on Thursday, November 17,  Ali Badi Chumvi alias Swaleh Hussein pleaded guilty and confessed to have been previously jailed for eight months for vandalising & stealing SGR line.

"While reading the sentence, Justice Mutuku said that the man's action was a threat to the safety of the SGR and that the he wasn't remorseful.

"Hussein's co-accused, Boniface Ngonda, pleaded not guilty & was released on Sh200k bond with one surety with an alternative Sh100k cash bail. The case will be mentioned on 29th Nov. 2022 for pre-trial," part of the statement by ODPP read. 

At the same time, A Murang'a court sentenced a man to 20 yrs imprisonment for raping a 25-yr-old woman who is partially deaf, partially dumb & mentally handicapped.

The Court noted that Samuel Kamau took advantage of the woman's vulnerability.
