Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has sent caution to public service vehicles operators in Nairobi after he announced free transport for school children in the city.
Speaking on Friday, November 18, after a meeting with matatu operators at City Hall, Nairobi, Sakaja warned the operators against carrying excess passengers in the vehicles.
The county boss asked the matatu operators to be responsible maintaining that any vehicle that will carry excess passengers will face the law.
“I caution you to be responsible. Do not abuse this directive to carry excess passengers lest you find yourself in trouble with the traffic police," Sakaja stated.
The governor, however, said that he had directed traffic officers in the city not to impound any vehicles carrying students in excess.

According to Sakaja, the agreement with the matatu operators to carry schoolchildren will take effect immediately.
"As the county government, we will involve traffic police to ensure that they do not arrest matatus carrying students,” Sakaja added.
Speaking after the meeting, the county boss thanked the matatu operators and hinted that they had agreed on other measures so as to restore order in Nairobi City.
"Held a successful engagement with all Nairobi Matatu SACCOS earlier today where we have agreed on a raft of measures to restore order and sanity in the city. Grateful for the cooperation from the sector," Sakaja stated.
