The journalist was roughed up by three bodyguards, with one of them slapping him bitterly.

Mwangi Muiruri, a journalist attached to the Nation Media Group, was on Thursday, November 24, assaulted by the security detail of the Second Lady Dorcas Rigathi in Murang'a.

In a video clip seen by Nairobileo.co.ke, Muiruri was roughed up by three bodyguards, with one of them slapping the journalist on the face.

It took the intervention of Muiruri's colleague to entangle him from the colleague as he came shouting, "ni colleague wangu bana, ni colleague..."

The Second Lady was distributing relief food in Gatanga, Murang'a County, when the incident happened.

Muiruri was recording the event using his mobile phone before one of the bodyguards accosted him and tried to stop him from recording.

This is the second time the journalist is being assaulted in his line of duty.

On November 14, 2021, Muiruri was harassed and arrested while he was covering the then Deputy President William Ruto’s event in Murang’a.

The journalist was arrested for allegedly compromising Ruto's security during the event where he was launching a cooperative society.

The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) heavily condemned the incident and called for the prosecution of the officers involved.
