Police from Villa Police Station in Embakasi, Nairobi on Friday, November 25, arrested 16 suspected muggers from their hideout within Transami area.

In an update by the National Police Service (NPS) on Saturday, the suspects were nabbed with weapons in their hideout. 

The officers searched the hideout and found one toy pistol, 37 knives, 3 pangas and 2 hammers.

Other items recovered include 158 rolls of bhang, 2 litres of chang'aa and 10 Kenya Power meter boxes, suspected to have been stolen.

Inspector General of police Japhet Koome 

Police have heightened security in the City after the recent rise of mugging incidents in broad daylight. 

Inspector General of police Japhet Koome warned that he would deal with rising insecurity in Nairobi immediately he was sworn in. 

"I and my officers will swiftly deal with those causing mayhem to the general public by shooting and killing innocent wananchi at will," Koome stated.
