The pupils were set to sit for their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations on Monday.


Two candidates who were poised to sit for their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations on Friday drowned at Theta dam in Kiambu county.

The two were pupils of  ComeJuu Premier Academy in Githunguri, Kiambu.

The two drowned on the day they had completed their rehearsals on the same day.

Reports indicate that 60 students of Class 8 and 6 pupils were taken to the Kinale Forest to freshen their minds when the tragedy occurred.

Police confirmed the incident and said it happened shortly past 4 PM. The circumstances surrounding the tragedy are yet to be established.

The School is yet to issue a statement on the tragedy.

The rescue operation kicked off after the boys slipped into Theta Dam at around 4:30 pm but unfortunately they could not be saved.

The bodies of the two have been moved to Kenyatta University Hospital Morgue.

The incident comes barely a month after a KCSE student drowned in Kirinyaga county.

About 200 candidates had gone for a hiking tour of Mt Kenya at Castle in Gichugu Constituency when one of them slipped into the nearby waterfall and drowned.

KCPE exams are set to kick off across the country on Monday.
