Chamwada ventured into broadcasting in 1994 as a volunteer radio presenter with Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).

Celebrated journalist Alex Chamwada on Sunday paid his former primary school teachers a visit at his rural home in Sabatia constituency, Vihiga County.

During the visit, the veteran journalist shared a token of appreciation to the teachers who he said moulded him into who he is today.

The journalist is an alumnus of Ellongo Primary School in Sabatia constituency in Vihiga county.

"My primary school teachers made a very big impact on my life. They laid the foundation not just for my career but the 'whole me! - a whole person! The school is known as Ellongo Primary School in Sabatia Constituency, Vihiga County. Yesterday I met five of them. I joined the school at the nursery level in 1978 and sat for KCPE in 1986. Mungu awabariki walimu wangu," the journalist shared on Facebook.

Chamwada is a Kenyan media personality with a wide experience in international television reporting.

He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Chams Media, an independent content production company specializing In documentaries and features.

The company’s main TV programmes are 1) Daring Abroad; which highlights the experiences of Kenyans living abroad and 2. The Chamwada Report focuses on development issues. Both programmes air on KTN News Channel.

He ventured into broadcasting in 1994 as a volunteer radio presenter with Kenya Broadcasting Corporation while pursuing his undergraduate studies at Moi University in Kenya.

He later worked as a general TV reporter for the same station from 1998 to 1999 then for Citizen Radio and TV in 1999.

He joined KTN in 2001 and rose through the ranks to become a political editor. His last employer was Citizen TV where he worked as an Associate Editor.

Chamwada quit employment in 2014 to venture into media consultancy. He is a member of the Kenya Editors Guild.

In 2017, Chamwada worked as a media consultant in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s communication team. He has also done media consultancy for international organisations like the UN-Habitat and the UNDP.

Chamwada was crowned the Social Media Personality of the year 2016 in the OLX-Social Media Awards Kenya. He was the top Television environmental journalist in the Annual Journalism Excellence Awards by the Media Council of Kenya in 2016.
