The two touts were caught on camera performing dangerous stunts on a speeding matatu.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has arrested two touts who were caught hanging dangerously on a matatu plying a Nairobi route.

In a statement on Monday, October 3, NTSA said that the two were in police custody, adding that the driver of the matatu had also been arrested.

The Authority maintained that the three will be charged accordingly, urging the members of the public to remain vigilant of such behaviors and speak out.

"The driver and the two conductors have been arrested. They will be charged accordingly. We urge all road users to remain vigilant and speak out against such behavior," NTSA stated.

The National Police Service (NPS) also confirmed the arrests stating taht the culprits were in police custody waiting to be arraigned.

"Following a video that went viral on social media depicting two bus conductors dangerously displaying acrobatic antics on a moving public service vehicle, we wish to inform the public that the suspects including the bus driver have since been arrested and are in custody," NPS stated.

The two touts were captured on Sunday, October 2, making dangerous stunts on the matatu which was moving at a high speed.

The incident attracted backlash from netizens who called on the authority to take action on the unruly touts.

NPS in collaboration with NTSA launched a crackdown on motorists who did not comply with road safety requirements.

According to NPS, 15,924 road crashes have been recorded in the country from January 1 to September 26, 2022 adding that the causes of the crashes were attributed to preventable factors.

“We note that our roads can be unforgiving and we all have a responsibility to use them responsibly. As road user and stakeholders, we urge you to cooperate with enforcement officers as they conduct this exercise,” NPS stated.
