United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai will travel to Nairobi, Kenya from July 17-19, 2023 to co-lead a meeting of the U.S. and the East African Community (EAC) Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council. 

In a press statement to newsrooms on Thursday, July 13,  Ambassador Tai is scheduled to meet President William Ruto during the visit. 

In addition, the United States Trade Representative will also meet Cabinet Secretary for Trade Moses Kuria, and Cabinet Secretary for EAC and Arid and Semi-Arid Lands Rebecca Miano.

This meeting will mark the fifteen-year anniversary of the U.S. – EAC TIFA, and comes as the Biden-Harris Administration intensifies engagement both bilaterally with Kenya and throughout the continent. 

Ambassador Tai will also meet with labor stakeholders, members of Kenya’s civil society, local businesses, and private sector representatives to discuss opportunities for increased cooperation with the United States.

She will also join the U.S. Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, to meet with local youth and women entrepreneurs and discuss how the two countries can promote inclusive trade and economic prosperity for all. 

Ambassador Katherine Tai was sworn in as the 19th United States Trade Representative on March 18, 2021. As a member of the President’s Cabinet, Ambassador Tai is the principal trade advisor, negotiator, and spokesperson on U.S. trade policy.
