Besides acquiring new cars, the State House accessed Ksh700 million for the construction of a modern presidential dais. 

A report by the Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang'o covering the first half of the 2023-2024 financial year, revealed that the State House splashed Ksh400 million to buy motor vehicles.

The report noted that the State House was allocated the funds on July 2023 which went towards the acquisition of new cars.

Besides acquiring new cars, the State House accessed Ksh700 million for the construction of a modern presidential dais. State House explained that the dais would be used to host visiting presidents and other executive meetings.

The new Presidential dias is being constructed at the State House gardens.

Nyakang'o in the report further noted that State House led in the acquisition of non-financial assets with its expenditure crossing Ksh566.68 million.

"MDAs reported a total expenditure of Kshs.2.66 billion under the category. The State House recorded the highest at Ksh566.68 million, followed by the National Police Service at Ksh477.17 million," the report read in part.

In the first six months of FY 2023/24, the State Department for State House received the highest proportion of development exchequer issues to development net estimates at 56.6 per cent, while the State Department for Foreign Affairs received the lowest at 0.1 per cent.

The State Department for Performance and Delivery Management recorded the highest proportion of recurrent exchequer issues to recurrent net estimates of 83.9 per cent. The State Department for Diaspora Affairs recorded the lowest ratio of 22.3 per cent, Nyakang'o explained.

The report shows that the government used a whooping Ksh51 billion over six months on expenses, some of which were not emergencies.

Ksh1.82 billion was used for the stabilisation of petroleum pump prices for August and September; a further Ksh2.4 billion went to the purchase of relief food and non-food items by the State Department of ASAL and regional development.

Ksh1.58 billion was approved by the Treasury for the renovation of the KICC ahead of the Africa Climate Summit in 2023.
