Jumia has announced a partnership with UK-Kenya-based telecommunications retailer, Follow Me Talk, to enable customers to purchase smartphones on finance through affordable monthly payments.
Follow Me Talk is offering smartphones on finance over a 5-month period with an initial deposit of 50%.
Jumia’s Head of Financial Services Nelly Movine stated that the partnership was in line with changing the lives of Kenyans through the internet.
“This partnership is in line with our mission of changing lives through the internet. We believe that the majority of our customers will greatly benefit from this, since purchasing a smartphone can sometimes be expensive. A phone today is more than a communication device; it's a planner, an entertainment center, and a budgeting tool.

"At Jumia, we seek to bring the best prices in the market but sometimes it comes at a steep one-off cost. For this reason, we have collaborated with Follow Me Talk to provide our customers with a ‘buy-now-pay-later' solution. Jumia’s customers will now be able to enjoy a smartphone while paying for it in monthly installments, of up to 6 months," Movine said.
Customers will be able to buy the smartphone of their choice while enjoying financial freedom.
“Follow Me Talk’s partnership with Jumia guarantees a strong level of financial responsibility; from delivering the phone on time, to the customer making hassle-free scheduled repayments”, said Edwin Okoye, Follow Me Talk’s CEO.
To qualify for this service, customers must submit their ID number and a recent 6-Month MPESA Statement.
Once approved, customers who are successful in accessing the service will need to give a deposit of 50% and have the smartphone delivered within 24-48 hours.
Mr, Okoye added, " Besides our 2-year warranty, the smartphones will also have insurance that covers theft, loss, and damage. Buying a phone elsewhere leaves you vulnerable to unwanted costs; with us you have peace of mind and a new phone."
