Speaking during the annual Kenya National Police SACCO meeting, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i said the government will use deposits supplemented by the National Treasury to fund affordable houses for police officers.

CS Matiang'i noted that the houses will be funded to officers under a tenant-purchase agreement among other beneficiaries.

"We should then make use of these resources and this opportunity to improve the welfare and the lives of our police officers across the country," said the CS.

Matiang'i added that the project will also protect land owned by the National Police Service from grabbers, further stating the need to train police officers on matters concerning financial management.

The CS also urged the SACCO to consider establishing and supporting a scholarship for children of widows and widowers of police officers who die in the line of duty.
