5 Celebrity Couples That Separated in 2023

Love was a battlefield in 2023, with several celebrity couples who once seemed inseparable parting ways and surprising their fans.

Below are five couples who called it quits in 2023.

1. Akothee and Omosh

Singer Esther Akoth, popularly known as Akothee in November opened up on dumping her Caucasian husband Denis ‘Omosh’ Schweizer after their honeymoon.

During a live session, the mother of five revealed that she left her marriage when they were enjoying their honeymoon after learning a couple of things that she did not know before.

“I walked out of the relationship back in June. I normally walk out of my relationships while I am still in them. When we were on honeymoon, I found out some things that I could not cope with,” Akothee revealed.

The two had exchanged vows in April at a lavish wedding held at Windsor Golf Hotel and was attended by prominent people including Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa, Lang'ata MP Jalang’o, Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo, Kisumu First Lady Dorothy Nyong’o, Migori First Lady Agnes Ayacko, lawyer Patrick Lumumba, as well as Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s wife Ida.

2. Philip Karaja and Kate Actress

Renowned actress Catherine Kamau popularly known as Kate actress and Philip Karanja aka Director Phil announced the end of their marriage after five years on September 19.

In a joint statement, the two said they decided to end their marriage a long ago and asked their followers to respect their wishes for the sake of their privacy and their children.

“We came to a conclusion to end our marriage a long while ago and are separated. We sincerely request everyone to honor our wishes for privacy for us and our children,” read the statement.

3. Lupita Nyongo and Selema Masekela

Oscar Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o parted ways with her South African lover Selema Masekela on October 20 after dating for one year.

Lupita in a lengthy post on her Instagram account said could no longer trust anyone after the breakup.

“At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust. I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception,” said Lupita.

4. Jackie Matubia and Blessing Lung'aho

Matubia announced her separation from Lunghano on July 25 after almost two years of dating. Her announcement came amid speculations that the relationship had hit rocks.

The two made their relationship public in February 2022 in a short film titled 'baby number 2'. They later got engaged in a highly publicized event in April 2022.

 Following the break-up, Matubia caused controversy online after advising women to select partners who possess intelligence.

“I keep telling you guys, even if you decide to get children, pataneni watoto na watu wako na akili.Hehe juu wengine wetu pia, even me who is advising you pia kimeniramba,” Matubia said.

5. Vera Sidika and Brown Mauzo

The renowned socialite parted ways with Brown Mauzo in August after two years of dating.

Mauzo announced their break up via social media saying; "After much consideration, Vera Sidika and I have decided to part ways.”

During their time together, Vera showered Mauzo with affection claiming he was the only man he truly loved and was better than all the other men she had dated.
