  • The senator says he beat Saumu during a bipolar episode.
  • Saumu has since admitted being bipolar.

Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip has admitted assaulting Saumu Mbuvi, the daughter of former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko.

According to the controversial senator, he only beat Saumu once during an episode of bipolar.

Loitiptip claims that the bipolar nature of Saumu has impacted their relationship negatively.

According to the senator, Kenyans should not judge him since they have no idea about the behind-the-scenes happening in their relationship.

“Yes, but only once, before I knew she was suffering from a mental problem. She has a mental psychiatric problem called bipolar. That’s why we never stayed together. She breaks things, shouts, and loses memory for even a week. Imagine, and all the Kenyans and media houses don’t know. I always hide this from people,” said Loitiptip.

He added she did not get hospitalized from his beating, and she was already sick.

“Call her family members, mine, friends, hospital. Everyone knows she is sick. It’s just you media guys who don’t know, and we opted to hide to safeguard her name, but now she has turned her story to favor her,” Loitiptip added.

In a series of social media posts, Saumu claimed that the senator attacked her to the point of almost killing her.

She posted photos of her bruised face while affirming that she will keep fighting for women in abusive relationships.

“These are the things he did to me. He almost killed me. I will forever fight for women to stand for their rights. Never allow a man to be violent to you.”

Saumu has since confirmed she has bipolar.

“I’m okay being bipolar, it’s just a plus. It makes me super perfect, I don’t entertain fakeness.”

Anwar claimed the problem had affected Saumu’s past relationships.
