Bad weather and poor visibility on Friday forced a plane carrying Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya to make an emergency landing at Suguta village, Nyamira County.

According to Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba, the heavy rains in the area affected visibility forcing the plane to make an emergency landing.

Mr. Mariba, however, noted that CS Munya is safe.

Before the unfortunate incident, CS Munya had held successful deliberations with Coffee farmers in the county.

While engaging farmers in the region, Munya noted that the government is working towards coming up with proper regulatory structures for the coffee sector in a bid t ensure farmers benefit from their produce.

“Just like the tea sector, we will ensure that coffee production is streamlined so that farmers can benefit accordingly. We have experienced cases of farmers paying so much interest on small loans they take,” Munya said.

“We will ensure middlemen are eliminated from coffee production,” he added.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretaries and other senior government officials have been traversing the country inspecting development projects even as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s term winds down.

President Kenyatta is reportedly keen to ensure that most of the key projects he initiated are completed before he exits office next year.
