The Ministry of Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has ruled out any possibilities of having the rest of the learners allowed back in school.

Magoha while on a visit to schools in Kakamega County also ruled out closing down schools due to the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in counties.

The CCS told the media that learners yet to resume learners may continue staying at home for a longer period of time.

He said reports that the second phase of reopening was scheduled for October 26, 2020, saying no such dates were issued by the government.

“In terms of the scheduled reopening of schools … first of all we never gave any dates,” he said.

“That date of October 26 belonged to the media. What we said is that we were going to monitor how everything is going and shall make an announcement in consultation with the Interior and Health ministries,” he told the media.

Prof Magoha, was in Kakamega County on Friday to inspect the production of desks being distributed to schools.

He stated that the small pockets of infections in schools were being monitored closely.
