Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has dismissed claims that the party is courting Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru to be his 2022 Presidential running mate.

Speaking to Citizen TV Tuesday night, Mudavadi noted that the party is currently weighing its options and has not settled on any particular candidate.

According to Mudavadi, a recent statement by Lugari MP Ayub Savula where he claimed that ANC was courting Waiguru for the running mate position was a personal opinion and should not be considered as that of the party.

“No…We are not courting any specific person for the running mate… We are open, we are looking at it openly. That was Savula in his peak of excitement he made his comments, I asked him and he said they were personal statements although he may have made some reference to ANC because n such commitment has been made,” Mudavadi said.

Regarding the traits he’ll be looking for in a running mate, Mudavadi noted that he is keen on a person with integrity, someone with trusts and who they have great work chemistry with.

On September 9, 2021, MP Savula while addressing the media outside EACC headquarters alongside Waiguru, claimed that ANC was courting Waiguru to be one of its key assets in Mt Kenya region.

“We know it is because of politics. We know that in Central it is very difficult to sell a certain political party and a certain individual who is contesting for the presidency. As ANC, we are going to stand in solidarity with her and we are courting her to be one of our political kingpins in Central Kenya,” Savula said.
