Lee Njiru, late former President Daniel Arap Moi's press secretary has been honoured in Nakuru.

Following his retirement from the civil service last week after 46 years, the Nakuru County Government named a road after Njiru.

The road was unveiled in the Nakuru Central Business District (CBD) on the night of Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

Presiding over the unveiling, Nakuru Deputy Governor Eric Korir stated that the county was proud to honour Njiru for his impressive tenure at the Civil Service.

"Throughout his career in the presidency, Mr Njiru employed an impressive work ethic and integrity, which is a lesson to the young people who are starting out their careers," Korir stated.

Njiru expressed gratitude to Nakuru Governor, Lee Kinyanjui for the honorary gesture.

"I want to thank the leadership of Nakuru County for this great honour and recognition of my long service to the presidency," Njiru said.

According to Nation, Nakuru has made an effort to name roads within the county after local heroes and heroines.

Reports indicate that Governor Kinyanjui has constituted a taskforce that will oversee the naming of roads after local veterans.

Roads named during the colonial period will also be renamed.
