The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has announced that all vehicles should use the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport’s (JKIA) main entrance to access and exit the airport indefinitely.
In a statement on Sunday, April 28, KAA noted that the ongoing heavy rainfall experienced in Nairobi has led to flooding at JKIA's Tower Avenue Underpass.
“Normal flight operations at the airport are still ongoing, and access to all terminals remains available. However, due to the situation, traffic is expected to be heavier than usual.
“We advise all vehicles to use the main entrance to access and exit the airport until further notice,” read the statement in part.
KAA noted that security teams and the Police have cordoned off the affected area to ensure the safety of all airport users and personnel.

On Saturday KAA was forced to respond to a viral video showing the roof of the international airport was leaking and disrupting services, especially in the luggage section.
The authority noted that the temporary infrastructure placed by the contractor could not sustain the impact of the heavy rainfall.
KAA explained that the contractor has been given three months starting from March 2024 to finish the works.
"Works commenced in March 2024 for three (3) months. Over the last few days, the heavy rainfall in Nairobi has adversely impacted on the temporary drainage infrastructure put by the contractor on site, resulting in the current leakages being experienced at the terminal," KAA stated.
