KFC reportedly imports potatoes from the Netherlands, South Africa, Egypt and other countries as opposed to sourcing them locally

American fast food company, Kentucky Fried Chicken popularly known in Kenya as KFC has introduced alternative swap options after running out of fries. 

In a statement on its social media pages, the fast food company said the shortage of fries were caused by an influx of orders during the Christmas and New Year holidays. 

KFC further apologised to its customers noting that it is working towards resolving the issue. 

“Fam it was truly a Furaha December. Mlikula sherehe with your KFC faves. Ya’ll loved our chips a little too much, and we’ve run out. Sorry! Our team is working hard to resolve the issue,” said the company,” KFC said in their statement.

KFC reportedly imports potatoes from the Netherlands, South Africa, Egypt and other countries as opposed to sourcing them locally.

To salvage the situation, KFC is offering other swap options including chicken, snack bun, drinks, coleslaw and Ugali. 

Some threatened to boycott KFC while others accused them of emancipating local farmers. 

"We cannot import cars, at the same time we import potatoes. It's a big no. We have the capacity, to produce potatoes if we cannot manufacture vehicles," Alex Matere wrote on Twitter. 

Another user identified as Mr Sensimilla commented;

"The way KFC is expanding in Kenya means the profits are good. Their decision to import potatoes and chicken while we have a surplus of both in Kenya means they do not want to support Kenyan agriculture, only exploiting Kenyan consumers while leaving them unhealthy."
