A woman with a mind of her own and what the media sometimes calls, ‘msimamo kali’ - karua.

NARC Kenya leader Martha Karua has stated that Raila Odinga is a man of courage who means well for the country.

Addressing the civil society groups on Friday, Karua said that Odinga is committed to good governance, fighting the runaway corruption, and the rule of law hence settling on her as the running mate.

"The fact that Raila Odinga chose me as his running mate; a woman with a mind of her own, known, focused on certain issues and what the media sometimes calls, ‘msimamo kali’. I take a stand.

"He is not only a man of courage, conviction, and who believes in himself but he has demonstrated seriousness on the issues I hold dear, on the shared values. He wouldn't have named me his running mate if he was not serious in the things he is saying about human rights, good governance, rule of law, and fighting corruption," Karua stated.

Odinga's deputy noted Civil society groups are important and help raise issues in society especially matters of transparency and accountability in Governmnet.

"When I was in government, people saw me as too much of an activist. An activist is not a bad word but in Kenya, it’s made to look dirty. I have been raised in a civil society. An activist is an engaged and active citizen and that is what civil society is about," Karua said.
