Jalang'o now says he is opposed to the creation of the office of the Opposition leader.

Lang'ata Member of Parliament (MP) Phelix Odiwuor aka Jalang'o now says he is opposed to the creation of the office of the Opposition leader.

In an interview on Citizen TV on Friday, December 9, Jalang'o said the move was meant to tame ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The lawmaker mentioned that he didn't believe in the office but in the streets which he claimed are louder than any official office.

"They are just bringing Building Bridges' initiative (BBI) back, look at the position of the office of the prime cabinet secretary and now the office of the Opposition. The Creation of the office of the opposition is a move to tame Raila Odinga.

"I don’t support the move because I believe in the streets, they are louder than any official office…the streets advocated for the Constitution we have today. We've had a lot of public participation in the absence of this office. An official office will not do much in checking this Government," Jalang'o claimed.

This comes days after it emerged that President William Ruto would table proposals on the creation of the office before the National Assembly that could see it anchored in law.

During a Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group meeting, President Ruto urged the legislators to rally behind the proposal which would make the minority more effective in keeping the government in check.
