President William Ruto on Friday, January 12, held talks with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy over the establishment of grain hubs in Africa.

In a statement on his Twitter account, President Zelenskyy said that the conversation focused on addressing food security in Africa.

Zelenskyy also thanked Kenya for supporting Ukraine during its tenure at the United Security Council (UNSC).

“Had a fruitful conversation with President William Ruto. Thanked for constructive cooperation in the UN, for support as a UN Security Council member. Discussed #GrainfromUkraine initiative, food security and creation of grain hubs in Africa. Agreed to enhance cooperation,” Zelenskyy stated.

President Ruto on his part said that Kenya is open to enhancing its partnership with Ukraine in the setting up of grain hubs and addressing food security.

“An important discussion that I look forward to picking up again Mr President. Kenya is definitely open to increased partnership between our two nations especially in the areas of food security and setting up grain hubs,” President Ruto said.

The meeting between the two Heads of State comes a day after Ukraine announced plans to establish grain hubs in the African continent.
