President William Ruto on Thursday, January 19 met with all the 47 Women Representatives at State House Nairobi.

In a statement on his Twitter account, the President said that his government will inject Ksh 1 billion into the affirmative action fund to empower women.

“The Government will inject an additional 1 Billion shillings into the National Government Affirmative Action Fund to empower more women to participate in enterprise and develop their capacity in various sectors,” Ruto stated.

The Head of State added that women empowerment will help improve the welfare of society.

“Empowering women is a socio-economic investment that will always deliver a wholesome return, it multiplies opportunity, expands incomes, and improves the welfare of the society,” Ruto added.

The meeting comes months after a section of the Women Reps asked the government to increase their affirmative action kitty.

“It doesn’t make sense that is why we are here. The affirmative action fund is a small fund but the government remains with a lot of money and that is why every county has a Woman Representative elected for you to be able to go and speak on behalf of your people,” Nandi Women Rep Cynthia Muge said in 2022.
