All the items at the station were swept by the floodwaters on Sunday morning.

The bursting of the River Nyando banks after a heavy downpour on the dawn of Sunday, May 5, has affected the Ahero Police Station.

Floodwaters swept through the station, disrupting activities.

In a report seen by Nairobi Leo, the police informed the public that all the items at the post were swept away as the water levels rose by the second.

All officers were confirmed safe.

"Please be informed that today at around 0200hrs, River Nyando burst its banks again, and this time in large quantity, and all the station area is submerged. The situation is very serious. All house items have been submerged. All officers have been accounted for, and the levels of water are still rising. More progress report to follow," the report partly read.

Floods ravaged the Ahero Police Station on Sunday, May 5.

Besides the station, homesteads and roads were flooded, leading to the displacement of the locals.

Some locals were captured rescuing livestock from the raging floodwaters.

The water found its way to the Ahero Sub-County Hospital, troubling patients admitted there.

In the meantime, the Kenya Met Department has warned of heavy flooding in Garissa, Tana River, and Lamu Counties.

In a weather forecast on Sunday, May 5, the weatherman noted that the ongoing heavy rains in the Central region and the overflow of the seven forks dams will increase flooding in the Tana Delta affecting the three counties.

“The ongoing rainfall in the Central region and the overflow of the Seven Forks Dams will exacerbate flooding in the Tana Delta, impacting Garissa, Tana River, and Lamu Counties,” the Met Department stated.

At the same time, the weatherman announced that occasional rainfall would persist over Western, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, Central, the Coastal Strip, parts of the Southeastern Lowlands, and portions of the Northeast.

“Isolated heavy rainfall events are likely to continue over the Lake Victoria Basin, Western Kenya, Central, and parts of the Coastal region,” the Met Department forecasted.

Further, the Met Department mentioned that most parts of North Eastern, Northwest, and South Eastern regions would be dry with occasional moderate rainfall.

“Most parts of the North Eastern, Northwest, and parts of South Eastern regions are forecasted to be generally dry; however, occasional light to moderate rainfall is possible,” the weatherman added.

On Saturday, Met Department Director David Gikungu urged residents in the coast region and individuals involved in marine activities in the Indian Ocean to take maximum precautions.

Gikungu pointed out that heavy rainfall is expected offshore along the Kenyan coast from Sunday intensifying to Tuesday next week.
