Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has threatened to impeach National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndungu over failure to release NG-CDF funds to constituencies.

In a statement on Tuesday, January 24, the ODM MP asked the government to release the CDF funds urgently.

He threatened to impeach CS Njuguna Ndungu if the government fails to disburse the funds noting that 289 out of 290 Members of Parliament are ready to remove the Treasury CS.

“The Government Must release CDF Money for us to issue Bursaries to our children. This must be treated as both an important and urgent issue. Failure to which we will impeach the CS Finance and so far we have collected 289 out of 290 signatures from MPS,” Babu Owino tweeted.

The MPs demanded the Treasury disburse Ksh 10 billion arguing that services at the Constituency level have come to a standstill.

“Because fellow MPs have decided there will be no induction without NG-CDF, all we can do now is have fun in Mombasa. We cannot dare travel to our constituencies without the kitty,” Mumias East MP Peter Salasya remarked.

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma echoed his remarks and asked the government to hasten the release of the NG-CDF funds.

“We have needy orphans who need urgent intervention so that they can report to school. If the government feels that NG-CDF has become expensive, then let education be free from primary, secondary through to university,” Kaluma stated.
