Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has slammed Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja over his remarks on Nominated Senator Gloria Owroba.

In an update via Twitter on Thursday, February 16, Salasya wondered if Governor Sakaja did not know that girls need sanitary towels.

“Is this Governor Sakaja Johnson what you call boldness? This was the highest order of madness this one played in the honourable house of Senate_KE you mean u didn't know our girls need these sanitary towels? These are the reasons our country needs hizo prayers za Kenya kwanza,” Salasya stated.

Governor Sakaja on Wednesday hailed Senator Orwoba for championing for girls to be given free sanitary towels.

“Senator Gloria Orwoba. That was bold and provocative. To change some things you must make people uncomfortable and you did! I’ll do my part in Nairobi for our girls,” Sakaja tweeted.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi on Tuesday ejected Senator Orwoba out of the chambers over indecent dressing.

Orwoba had walked into the Senate Chambers with red stains on her white suit. She defended her dress code saying she experienced ‘periods’ on her way to Parliament.

“I'm just dressed as per the Standing Orders. I'm covered. I have a suit. I have collars. I'm just short of a tie.

“This is the period stigma that is making our girls kill themselves," Senator Orwoba said.
