The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched investigations on how former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i made his wealth.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has written to the Head of Public Service Felix koskei seeking information about the wealth declaration of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

In a letter dated February 27, 2023, EACC requested Koskei for copies of Matiang’i’s declarations of income, assets and liabilities between 2012 and 2022.

"The Commission is carrying out investigations involving Dr. Fred Matiangi, former Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government. Pursuant to Section 30(1) (4) (b) of the Public Officers Ethics Act, the Commission wishes to request for Certified Copies of Declaration of Income, Assets and Liabilities forms for the years 2012 to 2022, including the initial and final declarations. Our officers Mr. Abdul Low and Mr. Paul Mugwe will be available to collect the documents,” the letter read in part.

This comes days after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) summoned the former Interior Cabinet Secretary over an alleged raid at his Karen home three weeks ago.

Matiang’i however failed to honour the summon by the DCI.

Speaking to Nairobi Leo, Matiang'i's lawyer Danstan Omari denied receiving any summon requiring his client to avail himself at the DCI headquarters.

"The law is very clear about how the summon needs to be served. My client has not received any summon from the DCI until this moment. There was no need to respond to something that is not existing," Omari stated.
