According to area law enforcement officers, the flash floods swept across the Kamuchiri Village.

At least 10 people have been confirmed dead after the Old Kijabe Dam burst leading to a landslide in the area.

The landslide swept across the areas near the dam leading to massive destruction of property and loss of lives.

"Several people have been taken to a health facility in Mai Mahiu due to flash floods affecting Kamuchiri Village. The floodwaters are reported to have originated from a nearby river that broke its banks," a statement from Kenya Red Cross read in part.

Easy Coach bus swept away by flash floods in Mai Mahiu. 

"The Kenya Police, County Disaster team, Kenya Red Cross and community members are at the scene," it added.

From photos shared online, Easy Coach Bus was also swept away by the raging flash floods in the area.

Preliminary reports indicate that passengers had disembarked from the bus at the time of the incident.

Rescue operations are currently going on in the area led by police, Red Cross and Community volunteers.

The Kenya National and Highways Authority has also declared Mai Mahiu Road following the flash floods incident.

"KeNHA informs the public that the following road sections are now impassable: Approximately 700m from Mai Mahiu towards Naivasha and Approximately 1km from Mai Mahiu towards Suswa/Narok.

"These areas are heavily affected, with road blockages reported. Currently, traffic is at a standstill around Mai Mahiu centre," the statement read in part.

"The Authority is mobilizing efforts to clear the road and assess damages. Motorists are advised to expect high traffic congestion around Mai Mahiu," it added.
