The thug had raided an apartment in Githurai 44.

A suspected robber in Nairobi was fatally wounded by police on the night of Friday, March 3, after he opened fire at them.

The armed robber was in the company of his accomplice who managed to escape after police overpowered them.

The armed robber had targeted a man at his apartment; after succeeding to corner him, the thug ordered him to give up all that he had in his pockets.

After ransacking his pockets, a getaway motorbike appeared and the robber hopped on it as it sped away.

However, detectives from Kasarani were on patrol and thus got wind of the happenings around.

The officers on patrol heard a distress call followed by police communication from control.

The police started a chase using their vehicle and while on their way towards Mokoe road, they saw a motorbike that made a sudden U-turn.

A CCTV footage captured how the police took on the armed robber.

And as the officers closed in on the bike, the armed thug suddenly disembarked and started running on foot towards a footpath while shooting towards the officers. Left with no other option, one of the crime busters opened fire and silenced him, bringing the chase to an end.

The thug’s accomplice who rode the speeding bike with exasperation his behinds barely touching the seat as he bent forward as if to boost the bike’s waning machismo, managed to make his escape in a hair’s breadth.

One Czeska pistol loaded with four rounds of 9mm calibre was recovered following the chase.

Meanwhile, the thug’s body is lying at the City morgue pending identification.
