Two suspected robbers who allegedly raided an M-Pesa shop in Bamburi were on Friday, March 3 arraigned before a Mombasa Court. 

The two suspects who have been identified as Festus Mutie and Peter Kilaa were on February 13 captured on CCTV footage raiding an M-Pesa shop while armed with an AK-47 rifle. 

The video of the incident went viral on social media sparking outrage from Kenyans.  

Senior Resident Magistrate Rita Orora ordered the two suspects to be detained for three more weeks to allow the police to complete investigations.

This comes days after former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko urged President Ruto to intervene on the issue.

Sonko on February 27 asked the Head of State to order Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and DCI boss Amin Mohamed to do a crackdown in Mombasa and have the robbers arrested.

“Mheshimiwa Rais William Ruto hawa wezi wamabavu wakutumia bunduki wamerudi. Kazi yao nikuumiza mpaka wafanyi biashara wadogo na wakubwa mitaani. Kama hii hata nimekutumia kwa whtsaap nikatumia pia waziri Kindiki na pia Bwana Amin mkuu wa DCI ni ya jana pale Bamburi Mombasa. Peana amri chini ya maji wanyoroshwe kama wale mabandits,” Sonko tweeted.
