Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Tuesday, March 7, appeared before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over an alleged police raid at his Karen home last month.

The former CS was in the company of DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, Rarieda MP Otiende Amolo and West Mugirango MP Steve Mogaka.

Matiang’i was also in the company of his younger brother John Matiang’i and lawyer Danstan Omari.

Upon his arrival at the DCI headquarters, there was a slight standoff after the police officers manning the gate denied him access citing that he had come with ‘too many’ people. He was later given access to the headquarters alongside twelve lawyers.

There was another standoff in the grilling after the former powerful CS chose to remain silent and refused to record a statement.

Matiang’i argued that he has a constitutional right to remain silent a move that forced DCI detectives to leave the grilling room to consult on the next course of action.

"The investigators framed two areas of interest to which to grill Matiang'i. On advice of his legal team, Matiang'i invoked his constitutional right to remain silent," West Mugirango MP Steve Mogaka revealed.

The former Super CS is being investigated over publication of false information about an alleged multi-agency police raid at his home.
