Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga’s Kiambu rally on Friday, March 17 was brought to a halt momentarily after a police officer lobbed a teargas.

Speaking after the incident Raila condemned the action noting that he would not be intimidated.

“Huyo askari mwenye ametupa teargass hakua amezaliwa wakati tulikua tunapigania hii inchi. Ajue hiyo kiwango tumepita,” said Raila.

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on his part stated that the police officer in charge of the rally’s security should be investigated.

The former Vice President also claimed that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua held a meeting to disrupt the Azimio rally.

ODM director of communications Philip Etale earlier claimed that police officers barricaded roads leading to Kiambu to stop Raila Odinga from holding a rally.

“Police have barricaded roads leading to Kiambu town ostensibly to block Raila Odinga from accessing the town for his scheduled meetings. This is after a successful rally in Ruaka,” Etale tweeted.

At the same time, Azimio’s planned rally in Githurai has been disrupted after unknown goons stormed the venue and dismantled the dais, and scattered the seats.
