Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has called off Monday, April 3 anti-government demonstrations.

Speaking on Sunday, April 2 at his Capitol Hill office, Raila gave the Kenya Kwanza government a one-week ultimatum to address his demands.

He said that the anti-government demonstrations would continue if there are no meaningful progress on Azimio's demands.

“In view of the foregoing, we stand down our demonstrations on Monday, April 3, 2023. We reserve our rights to call for demonstrations should this process fail to bear fruit, should there be no meaningful engagement or response from Hon Ruto our counteroffer is to continue with our demonstrations after one week,” said Raila.

His remarks come moments after President Ruto asked him to call off the demonstrations and agreed to reconstitute IEBC through a bipartisan parliamentary process.

"I have carefully listened to the issues raised by my friend Raila Odinga. In times like these, it is not about who is right or who is wrong. Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak but it is also what it takes to sit down and listen.

“I urge my brother Raila Odinga and the opposition to call off demonstrations and give a bipartisan approach a chance for us to take Kenya forward," the president said in a State of the Nation Address earlier.
